Louis Schwizgebel will collaborate once again with conductor Edward Gardner when he makes his debut with City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra on 18 October 2014. The performance comes soon after Schwizgebel’s BBC Proms debut, also with Edward Gardner, in August. Schwizgebel joins the CBSO for a Hungarian-inspired programme, in which he will play Liszt’s Piano Concerto No.1.
Schwizgebel follows this with a tour of Eastern Europe alongside Thierry Fischer and the Animato Foundation Orchestra. Schwizgebel will perform Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No.2 in Stefaniensaal, Graz (25 October), Mozarteum, Salzburg (26 October), Reduta, Bratislava (28 October), Smetana Hall, Prague (29 October) and Vienna Konzerthaus (31 October).

Louis Schwizgebel has received excellent reviews for his BBC Proms debut at London's Royal Albert Hall of Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 1 followed by Liszt's transcription of Schubert's Ständchen as encore broadcast by BBC Four and BBC Radio 3:
"Louis Schwizgebel was an ideal soloist in the Prokofiev, bringing thoughtful illumination where he could to the concerto's look-at-me fireworks."
Neil Fisher, Times
"Prokoviev's skittish First Piano Concerto was given a fast and furious performance by Louis Schwizgebel, who negotiated the work's bravura back-flip by shaping the introductory theme like a triumphant conclusion and rounding off with an introductory flourish."
Alfred Hickling, Guardian
"I had Schwizgebel down as a romantic on the strength of his mature Schubert and Beethoven on a BBC Music Magazine cover disc, but he can do the naughty stuff, the beat poetry, too, dashing off the runs, tongue-pokings and nose-thumbings as well as any enfant terrible... we were longing to hear Schwizgebel alone... and he obliged with perfect transcendentalism in Liszt's transcription of Schubert's minor-key Serenade. For once the show-off composer didn't swamp his better; and Schwizgebel made it sound, ever so delicately, like four hands at one keyboard in the canonic echoes of the tune in the last verse."
